GSoC EnviroCar Project Idea

harshvardhan145
Reducing the fuel consumption of vehicles by suggesting "Ecological Routes" as compared to those based on simple time priority. The project aims to integrate Open source terrain data and temporal climate data with EnviroCar data to develop predicitve hypotheses in order to find optimal "Ecological Routes" minimising emissions and fuel consumption in the context of weather conditions.

Dear Harshvardhan,

I am a graduate student had similar interest, I do not think temporal climate data playing a big role in reducing fuel consumption
of vehicles.

There exists some related literature in this field. Below is some examples, take a look if you got the time.I think it will help you get a better idea.
1. Saremi F, Fatemieh O, Ahmadi H, et al. Experiences with GreenGPS–Fuel-Efficient Navigation using Participatory Sensing[J]. 2015.
2. Ganti R K, Pham N, Ahmadi H, et al. GreenGPS: a participatory sensing fuel-efficient maps application[C]//Proceedings of the 8th international conference on Mobile systems, applications, and services. ACM, 2010: 151-164.

Dear Harshvardhan, dear Meng,

thanks for your interest in the enviroCar project and thanks for pointing to the GreenGPS project which is very interesting. I agree that cuirrent weather data does probably not influence the fuel consumption of drivers, but it does influence the air quality in cities which car-based emissions are contributing to.

We have llisted two topics that we consider of interest for the envirocar project on the GSCO 2016 project ideas page [1], currently only with keywords, but they will be detailed soon. One is on visual analytics of tracks on profile pages in the enviroCar portal, the other is on quality assurance of the enviroCar dataset.

We would be happy, if some of you are interested in these topics.

Best,

Christoph
